Horner to Aston Martin?

NEWS STORY
25/11/2025

Former Red Bull boss, Christian Horner is linked with a shock move to Aston Martin to replace Andy Cowell.

On a day of shocks, the BBC - famed for its journalistic integrity, the validity of its sources and its renowned fact-verifying processes - claims that Horner has been approach amidst tensions between Cowell and Adrian Newey.

Ignoring the fact that it has long been claimed that Newey left Red Bull due to the Horner-saga, it is well known that the Briton has been looking to return to the paddock ever since he was fired by the Austrian team in the summer.

Understandably, the Silverstone-based outfit is saying nothing.

"The team will not be engaging in rumour or speculation," insisted a team spokesman. "The focus is on maximising performance in the remaining races and preparing for 2026."

Cowell, who was former boss at Mercedes engine division, has only been in the role for a year, and replaced (former McLaren boss) Martin Whitmarsh.

Curiously, the BBC claims that Aston Martin has approached Whitmarsh with a view to returning to his former role, whilst also sounding out Audi boss Mattia Binotto and another former McLaren boss, Andreas Seidl, who at one time headed the Audi project.

Lawrence Stroll has not spared the cash in his efforts to turn Aston Martin into a championship winning team, and at the same time will be determined to keep his design guru Newey happy, though whether that involves teaming him up with Horner again remains to be seen.

Fact is, Horner oversaw all Red Bull's title winning success and is very keen to return to the sport, if only to prove to the Austrian team what it is missing.

As strange as it all sounds, if it happened, a little further down the line we could see Newey, Horner and Max Verstappen reunited as the Dutchman is known to be watching progress at the Silverstone-base outfit now that the man who designed his championship winning cars is on board.

As part of his package on joining the team, Newey was given a minority shareholding, and it is believed that, flush with the cash from his pay-off from Red Bull, Horner would be seeking a stake in the team.

"I'm very happy where Horner is at the moment - nowhere to be seen. And long may that continue."

"The first thing Horner is going to want to do is ditch the donkey and get a REAL driver to partner Alonso. If he thought Jos was difficult, good luck with the Lead Narcissist - Stroll Sr.. Horner know's how to run a team. there's no reason to think that Newey and Horner cannot build up a winning team again and leave the drama behind them. If Max comes to AMR, I'd buy popcorn for the head butting between Jos and Larry."

"@Spindoctor - there have been a few clues about the way Newey felt during his final spell at Red Bull. If you read between the lines of his recent interviews and factor in some of the public posts made by his wife, then it seems fairly clear that there was some sort of breakdown in the Newey/Horner relationship."

"I can very well see Max headed to Aston Martin, but Newey? Let's see how 2026 plays out. So far, it does not look like team management is the issue. The car itself is the biggie.

As for the drivers. Alonso and Stroll are very close in points. Considering the pay difference between the two. Stroll is actually an attractive driver. They want to develop a car that can be driven at 10/10. Stroll drives it at that limit, and this is how the car behaves. Alonso drives it less on the edge.

Once they have a winning car, driver selection and retention will become much more serious. Making way for Max."

"I don't know about BBC's sources, but clearly the rumour mill is grinding fine today!
The problem with trying to evaluate any of this is that it is, for the most part gossip & innuendo. How do we know that Newey fell-out with Horner? He clearly didn't care for the scandal, but maybe he found Verstappen Snr a pain too? Who knows.

Whilst we're on BBC, their most annoying characteristic at the moment is precisely this kind of speculation. Being an irritable & very grumpy old git I think 'Nedws' should be mainly about things that are happening\have happened, not speculation about speculation about leaks from people with axes to grind.
So let's just wait & see....

P.S. speculating about dodgy dealings in F1 by us fans is perfectly OK!"

"Why would they remove one person that has a conflict with Newey only to put another one that has had a conflict so bad that Newey left the team?

I'm sure there would be prenty of candidates lining up if Lance "retires""

"Sounds a bit stupid to me, sidelining your team lider who happens to be an engine guru, when for all we know engines might play a massive part in the new formula."
